A non-profit organizaton for the promotion of skeet shooting both in Mississippi and Nationally.
The
Mississippi 50 HOA Challenge
The
Mississippi 50 Challenge Shoots are intended to promote One (1) day
shoots in the State of Mississippi using a 50 target event format
known as a 4x50 or 5x50. This promotion is intended to not only
build a base of shooters across Mississippi but to increase
Mississippi Gun Club participation in registered skeet shooting.
Thus providing both our MS and out of State shooters with the most
affordable events to shoot.
Starkville
Gun Club used a two rotation, volunteer referee, format that has
proven effective to get shooters through a 4 Gun, 200 Target Event in
One Day and if daylight supports it, a 50 target Doubles event can be
added. Using two rotations shooters from throughout the state can
travel to clubs, shoot and return home in one day. One key caveat of
the SGC 50 target formats was an optional Handicapped HOA Event. The
event entry fee was $5.00 and through the shoots handicapping system
allowed shooters to shoot-off doubles with the 410 for a winner take
all purse on their HOA Score. This event was normally won by an A,
B, C, or D Class shooter at the SGC Events and was dubbed “The
Money” in the shoots. It also provided lower class shooters with
invaluable practice in shoot-off situations.
The
Mississippi Skeet Shooting Association Executive Committee discussed
several options to increase shooting in Mississippi and these One
Day, lower cost shoots were targeted as a prime source. The decision
to add an extra incentive to shoot these events was made and thus in
2011 the Mississippi 50 HOA Challenge has been born.
The
basic minimums of the Mississippi 50 HOA Challenge (MS50HOACH) are:
Travel to Mississippi Clubs hosting a MS50HOACH Shoot for that target year and complete the 200x200 sub events at that shoot.
Shoot in at least half (1/2) of the MS Challenge Shoots held within the State of Mississippi for that shooting year, up to a maximum of 5 MS50HOACH Shoots.
Example: If CGC, CRP, SGC and WTR all host 1 shoot for the shooting year, 4 shoots total, shooters will have to participate in at least 2 of those 4 shoots to qualify. If Mississippi clubs host ten (10) MS50HOACH shoots total then shooters will have to participate in at least five (5) shoots to qualify. Regardless of total number of MS50HOACH Shoots for the shooting year, shooters will not be required to shoot more than five (5) shoots to qualify for that year.Regardless of entry in the HOA Handicapped Event for a MS50HOACH shoot, Mississippi shooters will be tracked and those Mississippi shooters who reach the High Score for the HOA Handicapped Event at that shoot will be reported as qualifying.
The total monies escrowed by MSSA for the MS50HOACH for the shooting year will be divide evenly by the cost of 5 Gun Entry at the Mississippi Skeet Championships that shooting year. Any remainder will be invested to continue the MS50HOACH the following shoot year and the integer quotient of the calculation will be the number of winning places.
Example:
Total escrow = $500.00
5 Gun Entry = $140.00
# of Places = $500.00 / $140.00 = 3 remainder $80.00
** Top three (3) shooters will be paid and $80.00 will be rolled over to the following year MS50HOACH Fund.Qualifying Mississippi Shooters will be tracked on www.msskeet.org as a race to allow shooters to know where they stand in the race throughout the shooting year.
At the Mississippi State Skeet Championships for that target year all qualifying Mississippi shooters for that shooting year who sign up for the HOA Event will shoot in a special Handicapped shoot-off to be held PRIOR to the 12 Gauge Championship shoot-off Saturday using the HOA Handicapped Event shoot-off format. The MS50HOACH Shoot-Off will be given the maximum exposure at the State Championships just as State Gun Title would. The number of places as calculated in item 4 will be paid their 5 Gun Entry Fee at that Mississippi Skeet Championships.
Mississippi 50 HOA Challenge Winning shooters must complete all HOA Sub Events at the Mississippi Skeet Championships that shooting year otherwise forfeit their winnings to the next place shooter of the shoot-off.
All Mississippi clubs are encouraged to throw MS50HOACH Shoots, regardless of size, but must agree to use the following items in their program at a minimum.
Handicap HOA Champion Purse
$5.00. All money returned to ONE Champion.
** Entry in this option is not required for MS50HOACH qualification but these will be the processes used to determine qualification. The option is open and non-Mississippi shooters are welcome and encouraged to play the option.
Total score from events I – IV (12,20,28,410) combined with the shooter’s handicap targets of each gun determines the shooter’s score. Maximum score 200 with ties settled by shoot-off Doubles at 3,4, and 5 with the 410 Bore. The Shoot-off is handicapped by the the shooter’s HOA Classification at registration as determined from the NSSA HOA Classification table.

Mississippi clubs agree to collect and submit $2.50 per 50 targets shot at these shoots to MSSA for escrow in MS50HOACH Fund for that shooting year. This is easily done by collecting
.045 cents per target rather than the .020 cents per target as MSSA target fees with Skeet Manager or BDB Skeet Programs.Mississippi clubs are encouraged to throw MS 50 Challenge Shoots for not more than $15.00 per 50 targets.
Mississippi clubs must designate a MS 50 Challenge Shoot at the earliest possible time to maximize shooter's ability to attend.
Any
Mississippi clubs interested in hosting MS 50 Challenge Shoots can
